PURPLE TIP ANEMONE
The Purple tip sea Anemone also known as long tentacle anemone, sebae anemone or Hetractis crispa and leathery sea anemone. An animal that belongs to the Stichodactyldae family, member of the Hexacoralla 6 folded symmetry.Their tentacles are concentric circles, patterns mathematicians see all over the nature.
So beautiful to look at, so animating. I saw this in Batok dive site in anilao batangas about 2nmi south of Sombrero Island on a Sunny afternoon with slight current at about 8 meters deep just before the basket corals.
Has a flared oral disc with a diameter of 20 and 50 cm. It's long flowy tentacles that dances with the current can go as long as 10 to 15 cm ending with a rounded purple tip more often than not a blue spot. They usually have multiple of six tentacles. When it is closed it is a whole different color of gray and dtted sticky warts.
You can see this beauty all over the Philippines and similar tropical to sub tropical waters from the Indo Pacific to the Eastern coasts of the Red Sea, Polynesia, Japan, Australia, New Caledonia and Africa.
Purple tip anemone usually chooses hard base substrates, sandy shallow bottom like Batok Dive Site in anilao but it is capable of clinging to branching corals. This sea anemone can also be found as deep as 40 meters.
The sebae anemone feeds two ways. One as old as time, Photosynthesis through Zooxanthelllae who has chlorophyl and give the anemone organic carbon over 90% energy and metabolism. That is the first symbiotic relationship invisible to the divers eyes. The second source of food is with a more commonly known Clown fish, and in this case the Pink Skunk anemone.
Anemone and Clownfishes have a mutualistic relationship. The former a predatorial animal that stings and captures its prey, called nematocysts, was lured by the latter because ...well clown fishes are attractive ...cute and adorable. In turn the anemone provides clownfish protection.
They reproduce in two ways as well. Asexually and Sexually. Through Scissiparity or by transmissions of male and female gametes (cellular).
